Flax species classification

Stems erect, 30 to 120 cm tall, with branches above. Leaves alternate, petiole-free, entire, leaf blade spatulate below stem, middle leaf spindle-shaped, upper leaf lanceolate. Inflorescences terminal, flower funnel or dish-shaped, blue, purple, white or pink. Calyx, petals, pistil and stamens 5, stigma 5-lobed. Capsule globose, slightly apical, 0.5-1 cm in diam. The seeds are oval in shape, buzzing on the front, and have a smooth, shiny, tan or white surface.

Different countries have different standards for dividing linen. China divides cultivars into three types:

Fiber height 60 to 120 cm, stems fine, upright, very few branches at the base, the upper part of a few branches, inflorescences smaller, the number of single plants with fewer seeds, small seeds, weight 3.8 to 4.5 grams. The length of the process (longest from the cotyledon mark to the first branch) is the longest. Fertility period 70 to 80 days. There are varieties such as Hei Ya No. 3 and Hei Ya No. 4.

Oil plant height 30 to 60 cm, thick stems, many stem-like branches, more shoots, more inflorescences, more than a few per plant, seeds in two large and small grains, 1000-grain weight 3 to 5 grams for the small grain 8 to 10 grams of large particles. The growing period is 90-120 days. There are two varieties of peach flax, Shangyi big peach.

The stalk thickness and height of oil and fiber are between that of fiber and oil flax. There is a small number of branches on the stem base, and there are many shoots, and the number of pods per plant is also large. The growth period is 85 to 110 days. The varieties are Yanza 10, Jinya 2, etc.
