With the continuous improvement of agricultural production technology, the demand for pesticide products such as herbicides will increase significantly. According to statistics and forecast of plant protection and phytosanitary stations in 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government) across the country, the total demand for pesticides (commodities) in China in 2013 is estimated to be 1.0244 million tons, which is 334,300 tons, a growth rate of 4.68%. With the accelerating process of agricultural modernization, more and more dependence on the use of pesticides. In developed countries, over 99% of cereals use pesticides; close to 99% of potatoes, sugar beets and beans use pesticides; nearly 94% of vegetables use pesticides; nearly 92% of fruit trees use pesticides. China is a big country in agriculture. The average annual incidence of pests is about 2.7-28 billion mu. The use of pesticides is about 230,000 tons, and pesticides use 24.2 kg per hectare. Among them, insecticidal acaricides accounted for 62%; fungicides accounted for 21%; herbicides accounted for 17%. So far, the pesticide dosage is about 2 kg per mu; its control area is about 2.3 billion mu, accounting for about 85% of the total area; annual grain losses can be saved by 20-30 billion kg.

In May this year, when the Ministry of Agriculture answered the question “Can people not use pesticides?”, pesticides are as important to plants as they are to humans and are indispensable. The damage caused by diseases, pests, and weeds in crops can reach up to 70%. The correct use of pesticides can restore about 40% of losses. Without pesticides, China will certainly suffer from famine. Professor Chen Wanyi of China Agricultural University said that pesticides, like automobiles, are also human tools, a tool for combating agricultural pests. People should treat pesticides as if they were cars, use their profits, and curb them.

It is true that the pollution and pesticide residues derived from certain traditional pesticides are threatening the ecological environment and human health. However, as long as we control and use it well, we can still enter the market. On the one hand, we have to ban a batch of pesticides that have adverse effects on the social environment. For pesticide species that play a major role in the development of the national economy, we must strengthen the guidance, scientific, rational and safe use of pesticides; on the other hand, we must also Strengthen policies and economic support and focus on the development of new pesticides that are highly efficient, low-toxic, low-residue, and in line with social development. Only in this way can green pesticides be developed and expanded and green agriculture and food products can be guaranteed.
