But now the University of Arizona study has come up with a possible alternative: exposed to the green light.
A team led by Dr. Mohab Ibrahim and Dr. Rajesh Khanna of the University of Arizona studied three groups of experimental mice with neuropathic pain. They placed the first group of mice in a clear plastic container illuminated only by green LED strips - the lights continued to illuminate for 8 hours a day for five days. The second group of experimental subjects was placed in a container illuminated by ordinary room lights and fitted with contact lenses that allowed only the green spectrum to pass through their eyes. In addition, the researchers did not allow the third group of mice to see light of any color.
In the subsequent tests, the first two groups showed stronger tactile stimulation tolerance than the control group. After four days of continuous exposure to the green light, no side effects were noted. Scientists believe that this may be because green light increases the level of endogenous opioids circulating in experimental mice. In addition, the researchers are conducting a 10-week clinical trial on 10 patients with fibromyalgia, and the results are encouraging.
A 2016 Harvard study also showed that pure green light can alleviate migraine headaches.
