How Bt Crops Kill Pests

Scientists have provided new explanations for how Bt kills pests. Bt is a protein produced by Bacillus thuringiensis. Bt, which is sprayed on plants as a pesticide or directly produced by transgenic plants, is an effective method for controlling pests, and it can greatly reduce the use of hazardous pesticides. Insect eggs take up Bt, and this crystal protein can damage the digestive tract of insects. However, the mechanism of toxicity of Bt has not been fully understood in the past. Joel Griffitts and colleagues report that several genes play a role in controlling resistance to Bt toxicity, in which the bre gene encodes enzymes that synthesize certain glycolipids, which are present in nematodes and certain insects. These glycolipids function as binding sites for Bt toxins. Analysis of these genes and glycolipids can provide an explanation of why Bt's toxicity only affects nematodes and insects. This new work also proposes a method that can identify insects' "glycolipid-regulated" Bt resistance before Bt resistance becomes a wide-ranging problem. But glycolipids are not the only binding sites for Bt toxins in host cells.

Porcelain Bottle Yellow Rice Wine

Porcelain Yellow Rice Wine is a type of Chinese rice wine made from glutinous rice and yellow yeast. It is a traditional drink in southern China, particularly in Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces. The wine is named after its distinct yellow color, which comes from the use of yellow yeast in the fermentation process. Porcelain Yellow Rice Wine has a sweet and fruity taste with a mild alcohol content, typically around 14-15%. It is often served as an aperitif or used in cooking to add flavor to dishes.
