"Cell" magazine: Chinese scientists reveal T cell immunity traits

By using single-cell transcriptome sequencing technology, scientists have completed the accumulation and analysis of sequencing data for more than 5,000 T cells. This is the largest research on T cells in the world so far. The study was jointly conducted by the BIOPIC Center of the School of Life Sciences of Peking University and the Zhang Zemin Research Group of Peking University-Tsinghua Life Science Joint Center. The relevant results were published online in the journal Cell on June 16.

Based on the human immune system to protect the body from the barrier function of disease invasion, tumor immunotherapy at home and abroad is developing rapidly, and it is considered to be another important treatment method for tumors after surgery, radiation therapy and targeted therapy. In particular, emerging immunological checkpoint inhibitors, based on "awakening" of killer CD8 T cells or inhibiting suppressor T cells, have brought about a complete cure for cancer, a once-incurable disease.

The latest research found that most of the killer T cells that recognize tumors and clone themselves in cancer tissues are recruited or domesticated by cancer tissues, and become "disarmed forces" depleted T cells. This finding reveals the presence of killer T cells in hepatocellular carcinoma but does not kill the tumor at the single cell level.
