The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 15.5 million Americans have a history of cancer in January 2016, and that number will reach more than 20 million in 2026. Although the overall incidence of cancer in men and women has steadily declined, the number of cancer survivors in the United States continues to increase – not only because of population growth and aging, but also because of advances in early detection and treatment that have increased survivors.
Studies have shown that up to 90% of cancer survivors experience fatigue, and many survivors have other symptoms such as sleep problems and stress. Fifty percent of survivors say they are "very interested" in the resources that will help them exercise or eat better. The ACS and NCI design springboard across cancer is an easy-to-use resource to help cancer survivors cope with their unique medical, psychosocial and health needs during and after treatment.
