Chinese scholars bring the next generation of CAR-T therapy, which can make cancer mutations nowhere

To understand the significance of this research, we must first understand that CAR-T therapy is a paradox. Traditional CAR-T therapy requires the extraction of immune cells from the patient's body and is engineered in vitro to allow them to effectively attack cancer cells. "Our technology can solve these three problems at once," Professor Wong said.

The birth of this heavy research is only different in the perspective of the problem. In general, we all think of CAR-T therapy as a type of cell therapy, but Professor Wong doesn't think so: "We don't think of CAR-T as a cell that kills cancer. A simple conceptual transformation has brought about a huge change in the design of CAR-T. Unlike ordinary CAR-T therapy, the new generation of CAR (chimeric antigen receptor) design brought by this group of researchers is divided into two parts, one is the "universal" receptor expressed on T cells, and the other is A separate "tumor" receptor. The strength of CAR-T therapy can be adjusted as needed, and the precise control of side effects can be achieved while controlling the curative effect.

So, what is the actual treatment effect of this new generation of CAR-T therapy? The researchers tested it in mice. The results show that, similar to traditional CAR-T therapy, this CAR-T therapy is also effective in controlling cancer. In terms of safety, it can also be fine-tuned according to the control of the researchers.

Looking to the future, Professor Wong expects CAR-T to become the main force in anti-cancer and greatly improve the quality of life of patients. “We want to have a CAR-T product that can be used on demand, so there is no need to create a separate CAR-T therapy for each patient, which can reduce the cost of medical care,” commented Professor Wong.
