According to Tiangong, this four-year project has received financial support from the European Union. The main purpose is to develop a new ceramic composite for use in orthopedic and maxillofacial surgery. The material simulates the skeletal structure and can be designed and 3D printed with mechanically detailed implants that match the implant site. In addition, some ceramics are also biologically active, which means they can be fully absorbed by the body.
Currently, the project is now coming to an end as the final results have been achieved. But some partners will use their results to introduce new technologies to the market in the next few years. Through further development, JRI Orthopaedics may further develop based on the developed products of the project, creating some by-products, such as bio-ceramics that can be used as bone filling, and a 3D printing plug for treating bone cartilage defects.
